Welcome to Blue Light

Blue Light has been active in New Zealand since 1983. It originally began in Australia as a community policing initiative and remains very strong through out the Pacific Nations and now with representation in the United Kingdom.

Blue Light is a community policing initiative set up to reduce youth crime and build positive police, youth and community partnerships. Traditionally, Blue Light ran discos around the country for teenagers and this is what many people may remember from their youth. Although these still occur, there are a range of other fun and exciting events and activities run by Blue Light Tauranga throughout the Western Bay of Plenty.

These days, off duty police officers and community volunteers offer a range of well organised and supervised cultural, sporting, educational and social events and programmes for children aged 6-18 years of age, that are all free from alcohol, drugs and violence.

All members are involved in Blue Light as they are passionate about youth particularly those who do not have the opportunity to experience aspects of life that young people should have access to. Blue Light is an independent charitable organisation that works in partnership through a MOU with NZ police
